Project Goal

The goal of the project is to spread wild flowers throughout the vacant lots of Brush Park to showcase the existing urban prairies.

The project aims to create a positive space for people through experiencing the existing prairie-like landscapes that are painted throughout the Brush Park district. Wildflower seeds will tag vacant lots throughout Brush Park with the intent for the community to actively participate in seeding Detroit.

The installation site: Brush Street, Detroit MI
A path will be carved out of the existing urban prairie along Brush Street to provide a private enclosure that promotes conversation and community. By containing the space within the native wild flowers the residents will be able to experience a piece of natural beauty within ‘urban decay.’ The installation site will be a model for what one can experience when wild flowers are introduced to the vacant lots. The wildflower seeds will aid in introducing new sites, smells and sounds that are nested within the urban prairies.

The tape and stakes were removed and the vacant lots were mowed....

Upon visiting the site to install stakes to tape off the section of urban prarie it was discovered that the wild flowers were mowed.
